2023 in Review
This past spring a group of community leaders and neighbors met around a dining room table inside a South County home to discuss the lack of Democratic visibility in our area as well as the challenges local Democratic candidates face here. We left energized and committed to organizing what is now the South County Democratic Club, which unites the efforts of Democrats in the townships of Concord, Gravois, Lemay, Oakville, and Tesson Ferry.
Since then, you may have spotted us out in the community. In July, we hosted a drive for the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank. Because of your support, we collected a month’s supply of diapers for nearly 30 babies and a cycle’s worth of period products for over 70 women.
In September, we gathered with township club leaders and fellow community members to march alongside Democratic candidates Sen. Doug Beck (SD-1), Rep. Michael Burton (HD-92), Kyle Kerns (HD-94), and Leslie Derrington (HD-96) in the Affton-Lemay Parade.
Later that month, 16 of us formed a PB&J brigade and made over 250 sandwiches in less than an hour. The sandwiches were donated to and distributed by The T, an organization dedicated to harm reduction and mobile outreach to those experiencing violence, opiate use disorder, and homelessness.
Into the fall, nearly 20 friends and neighbors came to say Hello! at our happy hour at 9 Mile in Affton. A few weeks later 40+ engaged voters attended our Democratic-Party Run Presidential Preference Primary Election info session at Weber Road Branch.
But most of this time, our small-but-mighty team—made up entirely of volunteers—has been hard at work behind the scenes. Our goal was to officially launch before the end of the year so that we can spend more time out in the community and on the campaign trail. And we’re happy to announce that we’re ready to hit the ground running in January!
What’s next? It’s your time to shine! At Rep. Bridgette Walsh Moore’s (HD-93) recent campaign kickoff, Democratic gubernatorial front runner Crystal Quade spoke, and her message was this: Show up and keep showing up to events like this—ones that support down ballot races—because that’s how we will take back our state.
Will you commit to showing up in 2024? We’ll be offering lots of opportunities to do so—action days to support local candidates, getting out the vote around South County, service opportunities to care for our neighbors, and so much more. On our website, you can subscribe to the events calendar, sign up to volunteer, and even donate to support our efforts to elect more Democrats. You can also find us on Instagram, Threads, and Facebook. Let’s move Missouri forward together starting right here in South County!
