Father Dickson Cemetery Spring Clean Up

As one of the first public cemeteries available to Black people in the St. Louis area, Father Dickson Cemetery was the site of 12,000 burials before it closed in the 1970’s. It is rich in American history and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The preservation and maintenance of this historic place relies entirely on the effort and contributions of volunteers and the community. https://fatherdicksoncemetery.org

 

Planned Tasks for Spring Clean Up
1. Collecting debris (twigs, limbs, etc.) from around the property.
2. Using string trimmers to trim around headstones.
3. Moving all debris to a central location.
4. Using a chopper to chip debris into mulch

Children are welcome to participate in age-appropriate tasks.
Items to Bring: Gloves, water bottle
Optional Items to Bring: wheelbarrow, string trimmer
Arrival: Between 9:30 am and 10:00 am
Work: 10:00 am
Wrap up by noon
Come and go as you are able
NOTE: Event will be postponed to May 18 if raining or conditions are too wet.
